"Actifio Review"
What do you like best?
I like the unlimited backup space and instant recovery were the best features. My company stores a lot of sensitive data and I needed something cost efficient and able to store the data we generate daily.
What do you dislike?
There was not much I disliked about this product. I thought it was easy to use and effective at doing what I needed done. I'd recommend to others for sure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend the product. I thought it was very useful and can see the benefits of this product. The unlimited cloud with the amount of data we store was crucial to our operations.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We are solving our storage and backup needs.

"Cleaning infrastructure through copy data management"
What do you like best?
The consolidation of existing backup/recovery services to a single platform has been our favorite part of deploying Actifio. Also, the single pane of glass for our copy data has made administration a breeze. We've been able to rapidly reduce our tape footprint and drop our RTO/RPO for disk recovery down to minutes instead of hours or days.
What do you dislike?
There currently isn't an Active Directory brick-level backup feature. Because we can't perform our AD backups (system-state) we have to maintain a piece of our legacy backup infrastructure. Keeping up with the most common backup source-types is going to be critical for Actifio to become a single product covering all of a companies backup and restoration needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do a full review of your backup/restore/DR/Copy products when talking to Actifio. There are many places where the product can fit that you might not have considered during initial fact-finding.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Our first priority was to get rid of our tape infrastructure. We were spending every month to move tapes back and forth for a backup solution that had a low success rate for restore and recovery. We had three different backup providers writing to our tape library which required excessive administration for everything from reporting to full system recovery. The slow speed of tape recovery was a sore spot that we immediately resolved with Actifio. We now can restore our data, even towards the end of retention, in less than 30 minutes instead of needing to recall tapes that can take days just for the delivery.

"Actifio Review"
What do you like best?
It’s one consolidated data management and protection tool for my team to use, for backup, DR and virtual clones for testing. We used to have 5 different software tools just for data protection plus storage on 4 different SAN, NAS and server platforms, which made managing all of our data a pain. It was hard to protect, retain and recover application data reliably until we got Actifio.
Plus, it saves us a ton of storage capacity through its data virtualization and then dedupe.
What do you dislike?
Reporting. They recently made some very necessary improvements and came out with a new version of their reporting tool, which looks better, but more can be done.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think about Actifio as something more than a backup tool, which is a cost-center mentality. What more can you do with your data (or virtual copies of it)? That’s when using Actifio will really pay off – when you can expand the use cases for it inside your organization.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We started out solving basic data protection & DR problems, which it has been phenomenal at. My team can recover a copy of a production in 1 minute. 1 minute. Backups happen a lot faster as well. Needless to say, we’ve cut the staff time spent managing backups by 3/4s.

"Simplifying data management, protection, and de-duplication"
What do you like best?
Actifio has done for data management what virtualization did for server management. In one appliance, it manages all our data maintenance. We have zero downtime backups with different SLAs for based on our needs all managed automatically. More importantly, any one of those backups, including databases and server images, can be mounted instantly from the Actifio console and available for use on any server. It can even mask PII on backups so they can be mounted by development for testing. Multiple developers can mount the same backup and it acts their own private copy without taking up valuable SAN storage.
Actifio also replicates our environment to our disaster site and has the ability to bring our disaster site on line with a single click based on a rule set we customize. And it brings servers on line within in a minute or 2, not 20 like many recovery software packages.
And what is really nice is that all of this happens from a single interface dashboard. Plus they have phenomenal customer support. They take responsibility for all upgrades, and "phone home" alerts.
What do you dislike?
The only complaint I have ever had is that there is a limit of 2 TB / LUNs if you put the Actifio in-band instead of side-band. The only reason to do this is if you want Actifio to do block level replication between sites. We opted for sideband and used mirroring for the unstructured data that needed real-time synchronization between our two sites. Works great. But knowing Actifio and their continual innovation, they will probably solve this restriction as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk to customers. There is so much power in this product, you need to hear how others are using it. We have even surprised Actifio with how we were utilizing their platform.
Also, don't discount the speed at which Actifio can mount a backup or bring a disaster server online. Actifio has made data protection, restoration, and management a non-issue. I never realized how much energy and time was devoted these data issues until we didn't have them anymore.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We were virtualizing our data center servers and storage and needed zero-downtime backups, copy data management to minimize the growth of expensive SAN storage, full managed disaster recovery at alternative site. We needed to manage data efficiently form a single interface and not from several packages cobbled together.
